Project Overview

The University of Alabama (UA) is participating in the Student Experience in the Research University (SERU) survey this spring (2016). This is a national, comprehensive survey that is administered to all undergraduate students at UA. The purpose of this survey is to collect data that may be used to inform administrators, faculty, staff, and students about the experiences of UA students. Information from this study will be used to improve existing student instruction and services as well as create new services to enhance the student experience here at UA.

SERU is an on-line survey. Students are invited to participate in the survey by an initial email from the Dean of their college or school. Students have access to SERU by clicking on the email embedded link which will take them to a login page. They must use their myBama login credential to gain access to the SERU site. Students may also access the survey site by using the SERU channel in myBama.

Students that access the survey are first presented with a consent form regarding participation. Students are asked to ‘agree’ or ‘disagree’ to participating in the survey. Those that ‘agree’ are given access to the survey. Students may exit the survey at any time and may log back into the survey using either access method above. The survey is not completed until the student clicks the ‘submit’ button at the end.

Students that do not access the SERU site or agree to participate but do not complete the survey will receive reminder invitation email messages about participating in SERU until the survey period ends this summer. Students that complete the survey (click the ‘submit’ button) or students that answer ‘disagree’ to participation question in the consent form will not receive additional participation invitation messages.

UA wants the faculty and staff to encourage students to participate in SERU. Students should participate because this is an opportunity voice your thoughts about your educational and social experience here at UA. Please help us in our effort to make UA a great experience for all our students, now and in the future.
